PMP 110: This moment, this second

At last they emerged once more into the open. Ominous clouds were forming overhead as they surveyed the area. Before them were the ruins of a temple, its great columns worn by weather or knocked over by time. A pair of Galactic grunts stood guard. Jun and Mitsumi looked past them, but there wasn't much to see: a set of stairs led up and away.

The grunts took notice.

"Children…?" said one, "No matter. If you've made it this far, it's no use trying to stop you now. Pass through at your own risk. You will bear witness to Team Galactic's new dominion!"

The grunts stood aside, and the two trainers walked past them carefully. Up and up they went, careful that their shoes would make the least noise. As they ascended, the platform above slowly came into view. Mitsumi stopped just before the top.

"Mitsumi?" said Jun.

"Jun," whispered Mitsumi, "No matter what happens after this… I will never forget this moment, this second."

Jun nodded. The two of them paused to imprint this moment on their memories forever before climbing the last few stairs.

The platform above was surprisingly empty. Mitsumi made out Mars and Jupiter a bit ahead, both keeping watch. Beyond them, in the center of the ruined temple, Cyrus stood with his back to them.

"Hey!" shouted Jun. He started running, "You're the leader, aren't you? You'd better give this up--!"

Mars intercepted him, holding the boy back with all her might, while Jupiter looked on. Cyrus did not turn around.

"Jun!" shouted Mitsumi. She chased after him, "Jun, that was stupid--!"

"Oh, what? You again!" said Mars, recognizing Mitsumi instantly, "Master Cyrus, we can't let these two interfere! Moreover, please allow me to get payback for what that twerp did at the Windworks!"

"I agree," said Cyrus, "However… if you were to battle them full-on, it could delay the start of the show. One Pokémon each will suffice."

Mars and Jupiter nodded before turning to face the two trainers.

"Ready, Mitsumi?" asked Jun.

"Yep."

"Knock 'em out, Toxicroak!"

"Medicham, I leave this to you!"

Mars sent out her froglike Pokémon, while Jupiter sent out her humanoid one.

"If we win," said Jupiter, "You two must leave this place immediately."

"If we win…" said Mitsumi, "Uh…"

"You can remain and watch the beginning of a new universe," said Cyrus, "As your reward, the fantastic power of legendary Pokémon will be the last thing you ever see."
