The truth was that Mitsumi actually didn’t know how to get to Sandgem. It couldn’t possibly have been like the games, where the walk from your house to the Sandgem Pokémon Center took about two minutes. With a bike it was probably quicker than that.

Mitsumi turned left off of Lum Lane and onto what appeared to be a main street. She took a deep breath and started walking. She looked around in awe, unable to believe what she was seeing. Was this really Twinleaf Town? It was so much smaller in the games, only four houses… but then, she assumed that everything had to be smaller in the games to make them playable.

“I wish I had a map,” she said with a sigh.

“Hey there!” said a voice, “You look a little lost.”

Mitsumi turned. A boy about her age was leaning on a mailbox in front of a house not unlike her own. He had short, messy blond hair, friendly orange eyes, and a kind smile. He was dressed in a long-sleeved shirt with orange and white stripes. He also wore black leggings and an eye-catching green scarf.

“I am a little lost…” said Mitsumi, “I just moved here recently…”

“No wonder I haven’t seen you around,” said the boy, “In Twinleaf, everybody knows everybody else. Well, anyway, I’m Jun.”

“I’m M-Mitsumi,” said Mitsumi. She realized that this boy looked just like the rival from Pokémon Platinum. This was getting creepy…

“Well, M-Mitsumi,” laughed Jun, “I can show you around, if you want.”

“Okay!” said Mitsumi. She was happy to have found a friend, even if it was a boy. He seemed nice enough.

“So, Mitsumi,” said Jun as the two of them walked, “Where are you headed out to on this fine day? Do you have any Pokémon yet?”

“I’m headed to Sandgem,” said Mitsumi, “And no, I don’t have any yet.”

“It’s dangerous to go to Sandgem without any Pokémon!” said Jun, shocked, “Wild Pokémon live on Route 201!”

“Oh,” said Mitsumi, although she already knew that from playing the games, “That’s not good…”

“I’ll go with you!” said Jun, taking a Pokéball from his bag, “I have a Pokémon. If you want, I could catch one for you on the way.”

“Oh, it’s really all right,” said Mitsumi, “Thanks for the offer, though.”

Mitsumi really wanted a Pokémon, but she didn’t want to trouble Jun. After all, wasn’t the Pokémon Lab in Sandgem town? She could get a Pokémon there. At least, that’s how it was in the games…

By that time, they were on the edge of town. Jun looked at Mitsumi, and she at him. They nodded to each other. Mitsumi’s heart was racing: she was about to go into an area with real wild Pokémon! But she also knew that it could be dangerous.

“Stay near me,” said Jun, “Wild Pokémon could attack at any time.”

“I understand,” said Mitsumi.

And so they walked. It was not difficult, and Mitsumi enjoyed walking along with Jun. They avoided patches of tall grass, where Mitsumi knew Pokémon were hiding. The sun was shining and the day was warm. It filled Mitsumi with energy and hope. Her feelings didn’t have time to spread to Jun, because after about fifteen minutes of walking a Starly jumped from a tree and rushed to attack.

“Hikozaru, go!” shouted Jun, throwing a Pokéball in the air. A Hikozaru popped out of it. It was a bright orange monkey, only about a foot tall, with a flame on its bottom.

“Okay, Hikozaru, use ember!” said Jun. Hikozaru was quick to attack, and shot a barrage of embers at the bird Pokémon. Starly was instantly defeated, since the Pokémon in this area weren’t very strong. It tottered into a nearby patch of grass and disappeared.

“That was close…” said Jun. Before he could recall Hikozaru, Mitsumi was bending down to look at it. She had never seen a Hikozaru for real before. But then again, she hadn’t seen any Pokémon for real. She patted its warm head appreciatively.

“Your Pokémon is so cute!” she said, “One day I’m sure it will evolve into a strong Goukazaru!”

“Yeah…” said Jun, “If I ever get out of here… I really want to challenge gyms, but I haven’t even been to Oreburgh yet…”

“But you’ll go soon, right?” asked Mitsumi, picking Hikozaru up, “I know you can win at the gym if you wanted to!”

“But Hyouta trains rock types, and I’ve only got Hikozaru…”

“So you can catch grass or water types!” said Mitsumi, “The fun part about Pokémon is that you can train as many different Pokémon as you want! The more the merrier, right?”

“Right,” said Jun, “Return, Hikozaru.”

Jun pointed a Pokéball at Hikozaru, and the small monkey was zapped back into the ball. Jun put the Pokéball back in his bag.

“It’s only a little farther,” said Jun, “Let’s keep moving.”
YIS.

So. Decided to give the installments titles, for now. This one is "Jun Appears". Or something like that.

Again, more info about the story:
The original plan was for the story to be either a Twinleafshipping (Rival x heroine) fic or a Sinnohshipping (Lucas x heroine) fic. As is evident in this picture [link] , I had quite a time deciding. Sometime in June I fell in love with Zero, and decided to include him in there. It took me another week to name him the main love interest. Of course, that doesn't mean that there isn't still evidence of the above pairings. It's like anime: There's one pairing that's screamingly obvious and there are other less likely pairings that still have evidence. Of course, there are also pairings that are purely crack. x3 Such as Mitsumi x Teruhiko (Teruhiko comes in later in the story).

Whatever.
